2000 V70 air box thermostat

Post by scot850 »

I have suspicions that the air box thermostat is not working. I know a lot of people throw it away and jam the flap to the cold setting on these NA cars. That is fine if you live somewhere warm all year but up here we really need the help of the warm air to get frost off the windshield as the engine heats up quicker.

I can find a thermostat for a 240/740, 850 and V/S70 -MY98. I cannot find any reference on Vida or anywhere else for one for the 2000MY. Anyone know a part number?

Thanks,

Neil.

Thanks, appreciated. Planned to go to PnP this weekend and checked as they had a 00 V70 base. Found all have been crushed!

I thought they only failed in the warm position. For troubleshooting anyway, why not rig it up jammed to the warm side, see if that changes your warmup time?

Neil - Im back home in another hour or so, but the air temp thermostat will minimally impact the engine warm up time. It basically just gives that extra bit of fine control for the mixture control of the ECU by giving constant induction air temperature.

You can still source the thermostat - just the tiny piece - for P1 cars. (Sadly, no such luck for the P2)

I did run two canadian winters with the flap at fully cold air. No issues, good mpg. Keep in mind that you always want from the front grid (cold that is) forced air into the engine. This is very important. I once completely removed the grid intake pipe, and got terrible mileage on highway (really terrible). So if in doubt, set the flap say 1/3 hot (from the rear engine heat shield) and 2/3 cold (from intake).
