1995 Volvo 850 cabin blower motor has failed x2

Post by crumblybrick »

Hi,

I have a 1995 850 turbo sedan and the cabin blower motor died (I ignored dry bearings for too long). I bought a replacement and installed it and it worked fine for about a week. Yesterday, I got in the car to drive home from work and the two small circular red/orange lights under the REC and AC switches on the climate control console were flashing and the new blower motor was no longer working.

There is a click when I try to turn the blower motor on, so I think the relay is still good, but I am at a loss as to why the new motor is no longer working and I really don't want to buy yet another one and install it only to have the same thing happen.

I would greatly appreciate any help!

Thanks in advance :)

The power transistor pack that determines can speed can die and give you both the failure of fan and the flashing error codes. I believe you can read off climate system errors under hood or maybe by triggering the ECC to show. Odds on a 1995, search the VRD on how to do this

I read the code. It is: 418 No control signal to blower fan power stage.

Is this likely the faulty part? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 50-9134932

That is the part. Unfortunately they are unique to 850's with ECC control so I don't have one I could send you. You could try a junkyard or Volvo specialist in Vancouver, or even Chapman Motors Inc on Vancouver Island. I have never had a bad part from them over many years. Not the cheapest but cheaper than new!
