Exhaust from R fit XC70 07?

Post by jrsamples »

Hello,

We have a 2007 XC70 with ~110K miles on it. The PO stored it outside and the Wisconsin winter did a number on the exhaust system. The muffler, hangars and rear pipe from the muffler have rusted off. Will the exhaust from an R model fit on the XC70? What is different from the CAT back? I see lots of after market stuff but worried about fit. Not interested in another rusty pile. Any good cross references or suggestions?

Thanks,

B-

Can't answer you, but what we do is purchase the bracket under the gas tank (look up on Ipd). As for the muffler pipe, mine also let go because the bracket was weld right on this pipe. I now run without this pipe and the muffler hangs on a chain attached by a hole above the muffler (I have removed the heat shield above the muffler). The hardest part will be to repair the flange after the catalytic converter then the flexible down pipe after the engine.

You are correct about the aftermarket stuff. Keep in mind original exhaust parts from Volvo are awfully expensive. Just the muffler would be around $500 or more. Better look on Ebay for used components from southern states. Outside the salt belt, these components are very durable with the exception of the flexible downpipe and the hangers.

Aftermarket Volvo exhausts are not the same as the factory fitted ones. They're less durable and not sold in one piece. Getting a fresh original one from down south would therefore be quite a good idea.

Yes it will.
You may have to trim the bottom of the bumper a little bit with a Dremel under the dual tailpipe extensions.
It can be done easily enough

Is the flange to the CAT the same size as well? No problem modifying the bumper cover. Are there additional hangars needed for the dual exhaust or is it just dual tips from the driver side? Thanks for your help.
