Doesn't iPd sell a short belt? That might be for '98 and older though.
'99+ uses a different tensioner that doesn't require creativity to release. And a double sided belt.

I thought the power steering pump was quiet the last we looked? Doing anything Monday morning? I get out of here around 0800 and it is only a ~20 minute drive towards your neck of the woods.
We should find a russian mechanic - these kinds of things (retrofitting + the impossible) are 2nd nature to them.

I believe we traced this down to the AC compressor's front bearing being on its way out. The power steering pump is still alive and quiet.
We also tore some Alternators apart. For those wondering, the pulley/one-way-clutch is on there He-Man like. I literally stood on a breaker bar and it didn't move - things usually give-up or snap if I stand on them. They are reverse threaded.

I owe you guys a thread on that activity. It was interesting seeing how they go together.
I went out for General TSAO chicken pickup last night and the AC pulley went from rattle to chatter with smoke coming off it.
I think I'm getting close to a diagnosis.

Put the short belt on and now have the Silent Pig - Ive forgotten how quiet the car is!
The belt unfortunately reverses the alternator pulley - which is fine electrically, but the pulley is a free-wheel design so I don't get alternator charging with the short belt. Maybe I can drive the car with my Honda generator in the back to charge?
Wil replace either AC compressor or clutch to complete this repair.
