I replaced the CKP on my 2005 2.5T AWD. Car ran smoother than before. I shut it down, went out the next day to continue. I poked around a bit and went to bring for a test run. Reset the codes from the previous test run. Started to let warm up a bit and it ran like hell. High speed crank like there was no fuel/ignition happening and finally kicked off. CEL flashing, message on display about reduced engine performance. It threw a P0337 code. "Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input". I poke around a bit and noticed a black tape bump sticking out of the crumbly loom. Apparently the connector was replaced. I pulled the black tape expecting the worse, but heat sealed spoo crimps were used, but crimping is light and assuming a bad connection inside of one that my moving about disturbed. In the cold I'd had problems the last two winters with cold cranking, flipping RPM gauge, etc. The other reason I knew the CKP was on it's way out.
To the point. I know it pretty much puts out AC voltage, but curious if they swapped the connector pins or if it matters. I've had the car for 2 yrs and it's run like this... but? Can someone with a 2-wire CKP poke and see which side the red and the white wires live stock as seen from front of car? The new connector they apparently put on has 2 red wires connected to a red & white wire on the harness. Much appreciated.

Marc...take a picture and I’ll compare to my P2 this morning if I can get to the sensor
I doubt the polarity makes a difference

Found this one in the archives.
I believe the sensor goes in with the bolt hole to the LHS OF car, so that gives you the red white orientation on mine at least
Red to port, white to starboard
Crap...file too big to load

Thank you as usual abscate. That works for me. Being a 2-wire, there is no ground nor voltage input... and is AC... but there's the potential finicky possibility.
I don't trust other's work. Correct butt connectors if you have to use them (heat shrink, sealing and proper size), but the discovered obviously weak crimp job. Still a light miss in the engine when the CKP is working ok, but the CKP escalated the issues (P0300, P0301, P0303) and causing intermittent codes. I poured the Marvels to it and was hoping to be driving it to see if it snaps out of it. If not, the obvious joy of pulling the head. Boroscope camera's mirror system is useless, so I could only see top of piston. No signs of valve interference.... so stuck or broken spring.
