Lucas Stop Oil Leak instead of Stop transmission

Post by Amk20155 »

Inatead of adding the Lucas Transmission Fix I added about 4 ounces of Stop Oil Leak in the ATF reservoir before I realized the mistake.
2003 Volvo S60, 2.4L Turbo with 199k. No transmission issues before adding the incorrect fluid aside from a slight stutter into 3rd. It's been doing this since I owned it (6 years).
No known transmission fluid changes before I bought it. How screwed am I?

I once added half qt of motor oil to my tranny in a Volvo 740 before I realized it wasn't red.
Never changed it and it didn't bother it.

But, why are you adding that stuff?

What a relief to know. I have owned a number of foreign cars over the years and always used Lucas products. HD synthetic oil stabilizer with Mobil 1 synthetic oil with oil changes and Lucas fuel additive with 93 octane only. I used the Stop Oil Leak one time a few years ago because a mechanic told me I was leaking motor oil (untrue). It's sat on the shelf since until today I grabbed the wrong bottle.

The intermittent "stutter" into 3rd gear at 35-40 MPH is a mystery though. It only does this at low, in-town acceleration. Highway and back roads no problem. It's done this since I've owned it. That's when I bought the Lucas Transmissions Fix last year to try it out. It just started doing it again recently, so I decided to add more today and added the Stop Oil Leak instead. I need her to make it to at least 300k, so as you can imagine I was a little freaked out especially with winter coming and all.

What ATF reservoir are you referring to? There isn't one!!

You just made your power steering leakproof!!

I'd do a flush to get it out of there but other than that it wouldn't bother me too much I think.

It's common for shift bump in very cold startup, if it's doing it when warm you might want to read the recent thread about saving these cars from the junkyard with a simple procedure to eliminate the internal fluid filter and installing an external filter.
