Is there a torque value for 4 x lower dash bolts? (VETTED ANSWER 8 Nm) Topic is solved

I am now re-fitting the lower dash section having repaired the broken mounts.

I have watched Roberts video on repair and in it he throws out a torque for the 4 x bolts on the firewall mounts of around 10 ft/lb.

Is there an actual torque value these bolts should be tightened to? Can't find a reference in my Vida, but then it doesn't let me read all the repair instructions in some sections for some reason.

Interesting that all data does not report these.

DO NOT USE a standard M6 torque which is designated for metal on metal fasteners though.

I think I would firm them up to Contact, then see if my dash squeaks , before any more torque is applied

I took them to 10 ft/lb as Robert suggested. Problem always is finding the middle ground on these as if it is not enough then the wipers and cover all have to come off again. I guess you could drive the car without those on to check it out now I think on it.

Too late for a helpful hint: Have someone push the dash forward from inside the car until the bolts are snug. If you try to pull the dash using the bolts, it will still be too loose. Been there, done that.

Good suggestion. I did push the dash with one hand while turning the wrench with the other. Feels tight but I am concerned that even 10ft/lb might be too much. Dash feels incredibly solid for now. I've dropped a note to the dealer foreman I know to see what they recommend too. Hopefully get a response tomorrow.

And here is the correct answer direct from my Volvo foreman friend Bill. 8Nm is the correct torque value for the 4 x dash mounting bolts in the firewall behind the wiper motor.

Heck, I wouldn't trust my torque wrench to register 6ft/lb. That is just barely over 'finger' tight. I wouldn't loosen your bolts.

I have a Toque wrench with a range of 0-30Nm on a 1/4" drive and a 0-50Nm on 3/8" drive so I am ok for this. 10ft/lb is nearly 80% too high.
