Uber has a 15 year old age limit, as far as I know. My previous car was 2003 and I could use it.

I can't add much on the specifics of what to look for as I'm new to Volvo's too. I got a 2005 V70 with 161,000 a couple of weeks ago. I was in a bind and did not have much time to do a lot of looking so I probably jumped on the deal a bit too soon. Mine has the transmission issue. I wish I had found this site before I purchased.
You are doing the correct thing asking here. I have done a lot of reading on the transmission issues on this site and there are some very knowledgeable and friendly folks here. I will say that all of the things I've heard about Volvo before making my purchase were positive. Properly maintained, Volvo's are some of the longest lived vehicles. I'm in VT and rust is a huge killer of cars here, it's probably not much of a concern in AL unless you are on the Gulf coast. My 2005 had almost no rust at all, I suspect that it was probably kept in a garage. If I can work out the tranny bugs I this one could go close to another 5 years.

Let's think "big picture" here.
Student trying to decide between a 14 year old Volvo and a 10 year old Volvo.
Got expertise? Got a place to work on cars if you do? Got time? Got money?
The industry calls the used car market "the ocean of neglect". Shop wisely. Might pay to have it inspected at a Volvo dealer.
I thought Volvos were targeted by a particular political party as being elitist. It'd be funny if a nice, safe Volvo affronted the locals such that your Uber tip box was effected.

I have to admit that I looked at the location where mine was first owned according to carfax, plus the fact that they had gone to the dealer for every damn thing, and did draw some likely conclusions regarding their socioeconomic status and political affiliation.Georgeandkira wrote: ↑07 Dec 2017, 07:38

Having said that, I'm just grateful for the fact that they had the means to maintain the car so well!

Volvos have huge left leaning tendency driven by a bunch of things.
