I'll look on one of mine tomorrow but if it's running well, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it

These look like temperature sensors; if they are, then the don't make a connection to anything. They have gotten jostled loose from holes in the sheet-metal that hold them in place.

I have at least one that I know of on my '93 850.

They are temperature sensors. The one on the driver's side is supposed to plug into a round hole in the grill by the fog light. If your grill is missing, they are reasonably cheap - even at the dealer.
The one on the passenger side is supposed to stick into the splash pan, which you do not have. I took mine and forced it into the grill next to the right fog light.
Look at a junk yard for a used splash pan/air guide with both 10mm screws.

Klaus is absolutely right....if not at a junk yard, www.fcpgroton.com sells the air dam (in their misc. section). Good luck!

Sam,
There is another site you can check out: www.v70R.com which is for R owners. They like to "bling" their cars, but are very knowledgeable with the R models.
