95 Volvo 850 turbo arrow light

Post by benzfanatic »

Hello,
To start, my Volvo has a newer transmission and a brand new PNP switch in it. I've driven it about 1000 miles with this set up. Today, the arrow light came on but NO CEL. Nothing changed in the running/driving of the car. The light on the econ/sport switch is also blinking. I scanned with OBD and no codes. I used the onboard diagnostics and no code but I was able to clear the arrow? I drove it about 15 miles and it came back on. Again, no change in the car what so ever. Everything I read here says I should have a CEL and codes but I do not, and I am definitely not in limp home mode. Any ideas? Thanks, Andy

What was the source of the PNP switch? Folks have been having some rather harsh issues with the reliability of aftermarket ones as of late.

Would also suggest pulling the battery cables over-night and plugging them in the next day - just to see if it immediately goes back into that mode.

In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

Thanks for the reply. I bought the PNP from FCP euro. When the old one went bad, I had major symptoms and a CEL. Now I have none of that. What's wild to me is that I just returned from two days in the mountains - non stop driving - with not an issue. I was wondering if it could be the ABS module?

Good morning all,
97 850 GLT, 206,000mi

I learned a PNP switch can be rebuilt by replacing new contact pins. I have limited money right now for costly repairs although am ok by putting in the sweat equity if it will make a difference. If it is just going to last a short amount of time and fail, I will just save more money and buy a new OEM PNP switch. What do you all think.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration,
Craig

@utip: There are a lot of posts on this site about rebuilding the PNP, I know I posted about it when I did it. Look in the long PNP thread in the repair database here. You basically just open up the PNP and remove and file down the copper contacts until they are flat again. Clean it up inside, fresh grease, reassemble carefully, it is good to go again. I would definitely recommend it.

Thank you erikv11. I appreciate the time for your response and will certainly look into your advice and learn more about it and engage in fixing it. I'll update you when complete and working great.

Thanks again,
