Replaced the PCV breather box today at 102k miles. The orifices looked good. The vent hose to the top of the crank case was broken in half. The hose did not look OEM so perhaps it was previously done. Cleaned the throttle body while I was at it.

Went for a test ride afterwards and about 5 minutes into the ride the car died. :shock: :shock: :shock:

Pulled over and looked under the hood and the turbo hose over the engine popped off. I had forgotten to tighten it.

Ha-Ha. I remember doing that (failing to tighten the charge air pipe enough) with one of the family's Saabs.

I stretched my right leg good 'n long while entering I-80 on a long, uphill ramp.

The POP noise it made was actually funny.

Replaced the rear bushing on the control arm. Had a fake Lemforder installed two years ago, which failed after about 10000 miles. This time got new Lemforder bushing from Eeuroparts, the part came in Lemforder box and sealed plastic bag so hopefully a real Lemforder part this time. Messed with removing the control arm to find one of the ball joints also could do with a replacement

Replaced Alternator, Serpentine belt, belt tensioner.... so far

Got up in the wee hours while the rest of the house was sleeping to replace the passenger side low beam bulb and also the H7 connector. The bulb blew during my recent loose battery cable fiasco, and when I'd gone to replace it at the time the connector fell to bits in my hand.

And I might add, all aspects of the otherwise easy job were made 3x as difficult by the small amount of space available to work in, even after removing the plastic housing around the computer to get a bit more space. But, I've got 2 working low beams now, so there's that! :-)

I was diagnosing the source of a fluid leak coming from the passenger's side of my engine yesterday...

So I removed the serpentine belt and timing belt cover to get a good look and discovered that it was the water pump that was leaking.
I also discovered that the idler pulley, timing belt tensioner, and serpentine belt tensioner were shot too!

The previous owner had the timing belt "serviced" about two years ago at the Volvo Dealership so I wasn't expecting to see so many worn out parts! Turns out, the dealer had just slapped a new belt on and nothing else!
So the worn pulleys had ended up prematurely wearing the new belt down to the point where it was already in need of replacing!

Soooo... I ended up replacing the timing belt, idler pulley, water pump, t-belt tensioner, serpentine belt, and serpentine tensioner. My '03 S60 has 169k on it btw.

Moral of the story...DON'T TRUST DEALERSHIPS! This is not the first I've heard of this happening.

R&R lower torque rod with Hutchinson unit from FCP. I could see daylight through the aft rubber bushing in the existing one, which I am guessing was original to the car. Hoping for diminished klonking on take off from standstill.
