I can unlock and lock the car with my one remaining remote fob, but neither of my two keys will lock or unlock the driver's door. Both work fine in the ignition.

The lock/unlock all button on the drivers door works fine too except that sometimes the passenger's door will unlock on its own immediately after locking so I have to push it down manually.

Locked myself out today because I didn't have remote fob. Any ideas?

If it might help, I've got a VOLVO VIDA DICE Diagnostic Tool I got on eBay years ago, but would need to install software to get it working.

So, electrically (key fob and door switch), the door locks and unlocks, but mechanically (with key), you have nothing. When you put the keys in the door and try to turn, do the keys turn? If so, it is possible the attaching rod/plastic grommet connecting to the locking mechanism became disconnected...(ie. grommet gone?). You would need to remove the door panel to check this. Should be some you tube videos available to guide you.

If the passenger door unlocks on it's own, it could also mean the front door locking mechanism is starting to go. I've replaced both the front and rear door locking mechanisms in my car with used ones from a junk yard. I believe V70, S60 and S80 units are interchangeable, but always confirm PN's 1st.

Good luck. You should be able to fix this with a little diligence.

So, yes both keys turn in the door. I was wondering if the key mechanically unlocks the door, or if it's purely an electrical connection between the key and the locking mechanism. The drawing show "links" but not really where they go.

If I install a junk yard locking mechanism, will any dealer programming be necessary?

As I recall, there is a mechanical connection to the "pull/push" knob on the top of the door panel, and to the key lock. An electrical connection is separate. So three ways to unlock...pull knob up (mechanical), turn key in locking cylinder (mechanical), or use keyfob (electrical).

No dealer programming required if you change out the locking mechanism. Once again, make sure the PN's are the same and disconnect the battery prior to any electrical work.

I have a strong feeling that something (connecting rod) is just disconnected, or the plastic grommet is busted.

Just a suggestion if you are mechanical and can go to a junk yard. Go and take one out of a junker. You will get experience with the disassembly and better understand how to disconnect/connect the rods and wire prior to looking at yours. I think I picked-up my used locking mechanisms for $18-20, so not much cost and valuable experience can be gained.

Slightly off topic, I need a spare key which can be cut at the local Ferretia (DIY) shop, they cut all keys for remotes, reading about this key thing would this New cut key open and also start the car ?

For anything after a 1998, you need full subscrption to VIDA to marry a key to the car.
