Vibration spurts while accelerating in all gears except1

Post by Steve99s70t5manual »

Hi guys, merry Christmas. So it started this morning when I was getting on the freeway and accelerating from 4th to 5th, I got a slight bump it felt like and after gunning it at about the highest amount of torque in that gear it gives a 1sec vibration almost like the freeway rumble strips but not so intense. It seems if I would just hold my course it would be fine and only under heavy torque would it happen. Now it happens in all gears except for 1st but I imagine it will, since it's been getting a lot worse since it was this morning. I also notice that there is a slight overall vibration while driving now and if I put it in neutral It goes away. Also I just did all 4 brakes well all 4 rotors and pads if that helps at all

Possibility of a clutch slipping... How many miles on her?

It has 230km and It is a vibration/rumble. I've had clutches go and it's nothing like this

Have you checked your motor/tranny/torque mounts? Failing mounts would cause the engine and transmission to shift around more under hard acceleration, which can then introduce various problems, including weird vibrations.

+1 on that. Check the usual suspects first. Could be a mount has let go. Most likely is the one under the crank pulley on the RH end of the motor. Another thing to check is the CV boots are good and there is no clunking in the joints.

If its the dual mass flywheel clutch system used on the 99 like mine, the failure can be quite complex compared to a simple plate system. I would guess engine mount before clutch with only 230km, though

It's fwd and it seems like its the the highest amount of torque or boost when it happens and its not a clunk but more like a freeway rumble strip and if you aren't sure what that's like its similar to a cattleguard but not so intense more like going over a a small bit of washbord dirt road
