unknown dashboard light

Post by sethatco »

I have a 2017 Volvo XC90, from time too time there is a warning that comes on the dashboard which the manual does not have and the dealership has no clue what it means, any one know what this means? It's a white circle with black lines that look like tread marks thru it. This does not stay on very long and does not seem to leave any error code in the cars computer. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

What conditions does it appear in? Snow? Dry? Idle? Turning? Etc.

It has happened in both dry and wet conditions while the car is in motion, the longest it has stayed on was 30 seconds. Never enough time for me to get a pic of it from my phone.

Have you tried snapping a picture of the dash with the ignition on but engine not started?

That usually turns on all " trouble lights" so maybe you can get a snap there.

The light only comes on when the car is moving.

When you start the car all dashboard lights illuminate. It's a way to see if any bulbs are out. Generally it's when you turn the ignition to position II.

Next time you're going somewhere, before you turn the ignition to position III (actually starts the car), leave it in II and take a photo.

The 2017 XC90 might be different, but this is the general behavior of cars.

If you're car has DTSC, a light pops on every time the system is activated to alert you the stability control is at work. My S80 T6 has the same light though when it lights up while driving rarely can I feel any difference if the car is in motion. The light will also light if your tires spin on take off, like on a slippery surface to alert you the traction control is working. June

Do you have the full screen instrument cluster or the bar graph fuel and temp gauges? Where is the warning light you are seeing?
I put 27K miles on 2016 and 2017 XC90 T6 models and never saw that symbol. The ones I drove all had the full screen clusters. The one in the drive now is the same and I can't use a light and cheat and try to see the warning lamps not lit on the TFI full screen type clusters. The traction control light on that style is a car icon with curving skid marks.

Draw the symbol on a piece of paper, take a picture, upload the picture.

Look in the owners manual for descriptions of all the warning lights.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
