Swapping Shifter Knobs from an '02 to an '08

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Swapping Shifter Knobs from an '02 to an '08

Post by PB0208 »

Hi everyone. First time poster, long time lurker. Thank you for your input. I recently had to take my 2002 S80 2.9L non-turbo off the road after 211,000 miles. I had that car since I was 16, and needless to say made a lot of good memories with it. Yesterday I acquired a 2008 S80 3.2L non-turbo. I would like to incorporate a piece of the old car in with the new. I watched some videos on removing the shift knob and it seems straightforward. I've also seen some posts, including one from an individual who swapped his 2008 model knob for a newer one from 2013, so I know that can be done. But my question is as follows: It possible to take an old knob from a 2002 and put it on a newer 2008 model? If not, I'll also take suggestions for other parts that could easily be swapped. Again thank you.

You'll need to pull both knobs with their rod and compare. The rod has some grease on it which is important for easy changing gears. If there is a leather boot around the knob, it usually just slides off by gently prying with a butter knife.

Wheels and tires, maybe? Then keep the newer ones as backup?

Looks like they changed the Shifter Knob in 2005. The only way to know for sure is to try.
