Hi all - Happy New Year - I've been chasing a hard start at temperatures below -15ºC on my 98 S70 for a couple of years now. I believe that I have narrowed it down to a fuel pressure issue as I have replaced most of the electrical components (cam & crank sensors, plugs and wires etc.). As I always start with the least expensive components first I would like to replace the fuel pressure regulator before the pump. I understand that these don't go bad often but I would have to replace the entire pump assembly to rule out a bad check valve and besides it's damn cold up here in the great white north these days and with no inside space I don't relish the thought of replacing the pump. Anyways, I need help locating a part number as I have the regulator that sits above the steering rack and both FCP and iPd only seem to have the type that either sits on the fuel rail (mine has the pulsation damper there) or mounts back near the fuel filter. Here's a pic of what mine looks like that I pulled from this Swedespeed post:

I've replaced that FPR on the rack before, I did one this summer on my V70, it was something of a PITA just because of access and I would rate the fuel pump job as easier.
Actually I think the one at the rear is the same part as the one at the axle, but I have never inspected them side by side. That would be Volvo 1275711, e.g. https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/9223/F ... r-1275711/. The regulator pops out of the plastic housing when you loosen that clamp around it. Be vary careful with the white plastic part.

Thanks for the info - now all I have to do is find someone who actually stocks it! In the meantime I'll do as thorough an examination of the vacuum lines as I can.

Thanks Neil, I found this just after writing the last post. I replaced vacuum lines today in the relatively balmy -12C temperatures ... we will see what happens tomorrow when it's supposed to be -20C.

Hopefully this will finally fix this issue for you!
Also hear you on the temperature issue. We have finally got out of the deep freeze that was Christmas and New Year, well at least for this week, although temps are forecast to fall again next week but hopefully only in the -10 to -20C range, almost tropical!!
Good Luck!
Neil.

I hate to tempt fate but it looks like I have solved the issue by replacing vacuum lines - both the large line to the manifold and the smaller line to the nipple by the MAF. She started right up this morning in -23ºC, well maybe not right up but only cranked for 3-4 sec and that was without a block heater. Thanks for all the help folks.

Hello all and happy holidays.
the volvo fuel reg for the 98 v70t5 is no longer available from volvo (1275711) or bosch (0280160574).
I called bosch and they were not helpful. I asked what the specs were and if Bosch 0280160575 was the same specs.
If any one knows if the two are interchangeable it would great to know. The two are the same size but I'm not sure if they are for the same pressure level.

I have no idea if they are interchangeable. I found one of the 574 variety that was being sold as New Old Stock (NOS) on eBay. You might want to check there.
