V70R M66 - New ride - VADIS/ODB2 questions

Hi,

I'm a longtime lurker/searcher on this board - which has helped me quietly keep my M59 854R in great shape.
Recently I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a 2004 V70R in Flash Green with the Atacama interior in a 6MT.
It's in good condition, with about 130K kms on the engine, drive train and suspension after they were swapped into an estate body. It has a stage 2 remap and I'm likely to take this to stage 3 with supporting kit.

What I'm looking to do is be able to plug in a powerful diagnostic tool on a monthly basis to make sure I can get to issues before they happen.
I have skimmed through the VADIS/OBD2 threads but haven't found info specific to supporting slightly unhinged P2s.
With the 4C systems, the HALDEX AWD etc it appears there is a fair bit to keep on top of with the P2 Rs, and I'd wondering what diagnostic tools and more specifically the regime you implement to keep your cars in good shape.

For instance, do you use VADIS to do a monthly health check or run an ODB2 test every quarter? And if so, what are you looking out for?

It's possible to use the trip computer buttons to check every subsystem if there are any codes set. If yes then VIDA+DICE is the way to go when it comes to computer connectivity.

You will notice a difference in philosophy between US and ROW owners, Arch.

In the U.S., it's " drive it until it breaks" more than "maintain it".

The two most useful things to me are a small logbook where I note any scans or changes in driving behavior and my seven female drivers who tune in and report new noises or vibrations across the fleet.

Codes usually give guidance to subsystem problem but not component level failure.

A p0171 code will google search to OXS sensor failure but 99% of the time be a vacuum leak

Is that really what the ROW does? When I first read this post I figured Arch was excited about his new finds and being overly protective.

Why would you scan for codes on a regular basis if there are no symptoms or CEL. To this US owner that just seems like looking for a problem where there isn't one.

Please don't construe this negative. I'm intrigued how the rest of the world defines what maintaining a car means. I do regular scheduled maintenance, but otherwise drive it until the CEL goes on or notice some symptom, In would never scan it in a regular basis.

Fair observation and question @velo.

While I certainly don't believe I represent the ROW and it's car maintenance concerns, it is fair to suggest that Volvo owners are marginally more anally retentive than the owners of many other mass produced marques here in Oz. I just might represent the upper end of that spectrum.

Add to that my secret desire to plug my laptop into my car and bond with it in pragmatic, platonic, but slightly aroused way and you can see where I'm coming from.

Wow, what happened to the 850R Archie?

That 2004 V70R will be a keeper if you can keep it off the trees! Don't turn off the 4C system however tempting, is my advice, unless you're on a racetrack.

First dibs on scanning it for you for free or did you get your own Dice setup?
