850 T-5R and R Nivomats

Post by Clemens »

In case someone was thinking about refreshing his lowered nivomats, they are still available in Europe (seems US Dealers don´t have them in stock anymore). I just received mine today, production date 12-28-2017. Cost me around a Grand with new springs.

Sachs is considering to phase out production, though, so if you are an numbers matching R enthusiast like myself, think about it.

P.S.: I know there are still other Options that might be better than the Nivos, but feds here force me to run OEM.

The standard Nivomats are not lowered. My 94 855 T5M has standard Nivos, they level the car 2 or 3 cm higher. Just the R and T5R had the lowered Sport nivos. And the Monroe units are not self levelling, you have to add air to adjust the ride height, if I remember correctly.

All nivomats are self-leveling.
Universal Monroe Nivomat is exception only, because you can adjust desirable ride height....which is also self leveling.Nivomat is nivomat and they all have the same purpose.
Sachs nivomats are the only one OE....but there are Monroe nivomats for our cars, without adjustable height, which are exactly the same as OE Sachs.

About nivomats versions...there are 3 versions...for fwd,awd and xc cars and they differ from each other with the colour of the label appart from part # and all of them are interchangeable and the only difference is in ride height.
IPD also lists 3 versions of nivomats for our cars.

Is this just an 850R/T5R issue or would it effect 98-00 70 series Rs as well?

I was planning on replacing mine just based on wear but not for probably a yearish

If your nivomats are not leaking...they are good.

I know right before mine started leaking - it wouldn't maintain the correct ride height intermittently. Started leaking within 2 months after that.
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

I don't remember mine leaking but they were destroyed. I guess I can look at the conversion video to see if there were evidence of leakage.

I got the Sachs regular shocks for my V70XC, just need to get the right springs to match up. My Nivomats are ok for now but I'm going to swap when they eventually fail.

You will also need a conversion kit because mounts are not the same for nivomats and regular shocks...springs for regular shocks are included in a kit because they are also different.
