I also did not know about this "plate/cover" under the crankscase pulley until he showed me the gasket used with this "plate/cover". I then looked at Volvo part catalog and saw a small rectangular shape "plate/cover" right under the crankcase pulley. I don't know what to call this and the purpose of it. Volvo mechanic kept thinking that was the source of oil leak. He said that this happened before to other customers.
My car is NA so no oil cooler pipe into radiator in passenger side. It only has transmission cooler pipe into radiator in driver side.
Thanks,
Ching-Ho

The plate is the blanking plate for the oil cooler thermostat. Perhaps the cover has been over tightened and is warped? I recall seeing this on an 850 NA we used to have now you mention it.
Maybe worth replacing the oil seal gasket on the cover plate again, but make sure there are no nicks or damage to the block surface and the cover plate is flat and not bent or twisted if the mechanic is sure that is where it is leaking from.
Neil.
