Need to change brake fluid on 02 XC70- Explain procedure?
When I do rotors and pads I would like to bleed out old fluid and replace with new. What is the sequence and fluid recommended. Thanks for the help.

As you are changing the fluid, not bleeding the system, there is no set sequence. Remember to keep the fluid reservoir topped up otherwise air will get in and you will end up bleeding the system.
On these vehicles you need a G clamp on the caliper to drain all the fluid. Open the bleed valve one turn on whichever wheel and push the piston as far back as possible, using the clamp. When the piston is back close the valve and leave the clamp on the caliper to stop the piston being pushed out as you pump the pedal, or start the power bleeder. If you are not using a power bleeder then hold the pedal down for 2 seconds every time you push it to the floor.
Fluid should be DOT 4+.

I don't have a power bleeder but I do have a spring loaded ball valve attached to clear tubing which fits onto the bleeder valve. This allows you to view fluid being pumped out and no reverse pressure sucks any air back into the caliper and I guess you could assume the clamp would keep that from happening but it certainly acts as a safeguard.
When you do have to bleed the system, this little device allows you to see and hear bubbles by putting the end into a clear jar filled with enough fluid to submerge tip and bubbles are easily seen and heard.

What I've done is buy the DOTBLUE (made by ATE) at the bottom of this page: http://www.fcpgroton.com/P2Series/P2brakes.htm
A liter will be all you need. When the fluid that's in there turns to blue in the exit hose you know all the old is out. Next time I do the procedure I'll be using the DOTAMBER so I'll know when all the blue is out and Amber comes out. Just a thought...plus at $9.00 a liter, this is a great buy. Also, I was not able to find DOT4 fluid at my local auto parts stores, so fcpgroton in this case (and many other times) has been a God send.

Brake fluid in a rainbow of colors - What a concept!
I will be doing rotors and pads so fcpgroton will be my one stop shop for all. My 02 XC70 has 170,000 miles on original rotors and only changed pads once. Also got nearly 80k out of my last set of Pirelli Scorpion tires.
Should I think about new grease for the wheel bearings while I'm at it? Aren't some bearings permanently sealed?
Also while there I will be looking into a vibration and shudder in the front which occurs especially under fast acceleration and moreso when accelerating through a turn. At around 100k I had the skinny vertical stabilizers which mount to the strut replaced. Any thoughts?

Your wheel hubs are sealed, thus no greasing there. I would upgrade to at least the HD (heavy duty) swaybar endlinks (the stabilizers you mentioned) that IPD sells....they do last much longer and now IPD is offering a multiple year warranty....don't remember exactly how many, but do believe it's either 3 or 5. www.ipdusa.com
