You don't need to worry about solid lifters and clearances until MY 2000 in which case the engine series will be B5244T or B5244. Yours should be B5254T or S
Absolutely go with the crank lined as a first measure. Make absolutely sure that crank is on the mark. If the marks provided by other bozos on the cams (usually in white-out) don't provide the results as in the pics provided then just turn the cams until they are where they should be.
The cams will free spin on these engines with no piston contact when crank is on mark regardless if the timing marks are made incorrectly or 180 degrees out of phase.

Yes I stand corrected they also got the B5234 for the R series V70 sold in the USA and T5 S70 however that doesn't affect the valve configuration either as heads were identical between turbos and non turbos apart from the purportedly sodium filled valves.

Assembly lube is better than oil. I have done both. When you install the cam cover, it is pretty hard to move the cams. Oil is usually ok if you get the rest together pretty quick and start the car within a day. The longer the head sits with the oil, the harder it will be to turn the cams, and the bigger risk you have of the cams becoming "dry" and binding when you start the car. Assembly lube will not dissipate like the oil, safer.
Make sure the crank is on the mark, install the belt, crank it over with the tool at least twice and start the car ASAP.

Assembly grease is better than oil.
Assembly lube is better on the cams. It will stay in place.
A few years back a buddy found a Fox body Mustang with a modified engine The guy had a speed shop build the engine in the 80s. Everybody told just it junk now that engine has set to long, including the previous owner. Both Frank and I knew the Speed Shop uses Assembly Lube on everything. Frank got the car for $500.00. Took it home replaced the fuel pump it fired right up. Went to the Speed Shop to see if they still had the build sheet, they did. They looked it over and told Frank, if you where to have that engine built today we would charge you $42,000.
Assembly lube can persevere an engine in storage for decades.

Well assembly lube it is!!!! I will try that when I get home!! So just so I am reading correctly, it doesn't matter which space my lifters go back in at? Is that correct? One more question guys I have one that is totally deflated the bushing.inside of.lifter is.blown out. What might have caused that?
