I am having all sorts of issues chasing down a P0103 code. I have read every possible post. I have a couple of stupid questions... Be nice!

1. Is the insert that has the vacuum line, hose from breather and heating element in the hose from air box to turbo supposed to spin freely? It is in there but it can spin around. Wouldn't that let air in?

2. I did my PCV and my car only had two lower intake manifold bolts. Of course I dropped one and can't find it. Could that cause a significant vacuum leak if all of the top ones are tight and the bottom ones are not?

I did find a tear in the throttle body to IAC hose. I have ordered from Volvo $150.00!

Now my car starts fine and then dies in 20- seconds. I can force it to run with the pedal but it is misfiring. I suppose there is a big vacuum problem causing a lot of this.

I really appreciate everyone's help.

You will need all the manifold nuts to be tight, and I would recommend tightening from the center and working outwards alternating top and bottom nuts. Also be careful as there is a bracket on the RH end of the manifold (when standing in front of the car) at the distributor end, that can fall behind the manifold when refitting it leaving a nice big air gap (ask me how I know that...!).

I would suggest loosening the manifold bolts again and having a full set of nuts for the studs, re-torque it as specified using the process I suggest above. For the IAC hose for the short term you can get a self adhering silicon tape that should be able to fix a split in a hose for a while until the new one arrives. I use this stuff for wiring and it claims to work for plumbing issues as well.

This is the stuff I use:

Good Luck!

As Neil says, you need the intake manifold to be on tight. I think they are bolts on the 94, no nuts. For the intercooler hose, duct tape will work in a pinch although not as well as what Neil suggests.
If you haven't paid for the part you ordered from Volvo yet, check out the links below. You can get a whole set of silicone hoses (or 2) for about what that OEM one costs. I have the FCP Sport set and they are fine.

Sounds like a massive leak in the intake. P0103 = 1-2-1 = Mass Air Flow (MAF). Most likely won't stay running because the ECM is metering not enough fuel because the air mass is a lot higher then what is being measured. Get the intake corrected first.
