1998 S70 front hood latch

Post by mar601 »

A common problem I know but now I can't get the drivers side latch to disengage at all. I saw a video about taking off the side light and going through with a homemade tool -- not doing that in subzero temps. Can you maybe use some vice grips or something and pull the cable harder from inside the cabin? Or do something from under the car? --thanks

I did from it below on my Volvo 740, also popped the headlight and went that way.
It was easier, less intrusive, from below..
Bought a very long flat blade screwdriver and a penlight. Either way it's still cold and a pain no matter which direction.
Try vice grips on the cable first.

Have somebody pull the cable as you push down on the hood, quick shove and let go. If it releases, the latch(s) are out of alignment. Slightly loosen the bolts to the latches, just enough the latches will move if pushed. Close hood and push down, this will realign the latches. Open hood, tighten bolts on latches to lock it in place. Test to make sure everything is working.
