Volvo changed the prop-shaft every year. So check the output shaft from the angle gear to ensure they are the same diameter and fit. Some have the flange that fits flush to the prop-shaft flange, and others have a recessed angle gear rear flange the the prop-shaft front flange fits into.
There is also a sleeve that connects the transmission output shaft to the angle gear. I recall they are different for the 4 and 5 speed auto transmissions. Are both cars 4 speed autos?
Neil.

Sometimes Volvo Vida parts system really frustrates, the rest of the time it is rubbish. Tried to look up if they interchange, but they have different part numbers on a 99 and 00 V70XC. However, if you believe them the rear flanges are the same part numbers and diameter of 92mm. For some reason they do not give you a part number for the transmission to angle gear sleeve. It would appear what I found would suggest they are also the same part number. So what the differences are I don't know driving the different part numbers for the units. It could be simply down to how much they supply with the units when sold. The drawing for the 00 car has the sleeve included in it, but the diagram for the 99 has the sleeve for the trans in the trans drawings?
If they are both 4 speed autos I would suggest they are the same units and can be swapped, but I would compare them side by side first checking mounting points, RH axle fitment and rear flange compatibility.
