My brother (thewifes_s70) came by to swap the timing belt @ 182k miles in the '00 V70 I picked up a couple of months ago. It was the one thing I thought I should have done before spending any more money on it since the previous owner guessed it was last changed "somewhere around " 100k miles.
There was a Volvo-branded water pump (some white residue on it) and tensioner on it, and an INA idler. A bee had made its home (or tomb, really) in the back of the idler.
The job was made much faster with my xmas gift to him: A Milwaukee mid-torque impact wrench, which took the harmonic balancer nut off in seconds. Everything lined up well after a while and started up perfectly. Useful next time would be a dead-blow hammer to loosen the pulley, and a cam lock tool.
What did you do to your Volvo today? Topic is solved

I love my Milwaukee drill and impact driver. The driver is a beast for its size (and just being a 1/4" hex). The mid-torque impact is on my list!
The cam locker is definitely helpful for VVT engines. It makes it a lot easier to ensure the VVT hub is preloaded properly.

I highly recommend it... I don't work on SUVS (really) so I don't know if it'll take off an SUV brake caliper bolt or an axle nut, but this job was really smooth. Almost makes me want to replace my harmonic balancer, just for the fun of it!bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑21 Jan 2018, 07:59 I love my Milwaukee drill and impact driver. Cam lock tool up here in ALB.
Cool intake CVVT on your 00, Bruno
I went out today to replace my broken rear ABS wire and instead spent 4 hours cleAning my garage trying to find the part. Finally found it in a VW master cylinder box.

Today I cleaned and lubed the blower that abscate so kindly passed along to me and it's in and running great, thanks again!!
Next up is (very overdue) state inspection; I'm anticipating the rear and/or e-brakes will fail it, but at least this'll put a car back on the road for me til I figure out the transmission rebuild on the Baja... whole 'nother can of worms there.
While I had the kick panel off to get at the blower I rebuilt the broken tabs on either side with fiberglass & epoxy, letting that cure and then drilling new holes for when I re-install it. Somewhere along the way someone else had the entire dash apart and a lot of those tabs are badly damaged if not broken off entirely especially around the glovebox.

My dash will come apart one day. Whether that happens from me taking it apart or it jumping into my lap on the highway, I don't know, but I very badly need to repair it.

You're not the only one.
In this cold(ish) period, I get loud cracking sounds from the plastics expanding when the heater is on and the engine reaches operating temperature. I'm fairly used to the four loud cracks by now, but my dear old mother nearly jumped from the seat when I drove her to work one morning and the fireworks began.

Oh yeah, my V70 and both of my cousin's S70s do that from the heat. Fortunately for him, his dashes only creak a little bit compared to mine.
I think I need to get my wheels balanced, because that will probably help alleviate the noise a bit. My whole steering column and dash shake violently on the highway. It's pretty awful.

You might want to go back, the sixth coupon is a free Kerr-flunk removal.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2018, 21:25It was full! I didn’t grab it (didn’t want to pay whatever those guys wanted to charge me) but it was a cool find indeed! I should have pocketed it... lots of valuable service coupons if they would still take them!
