1999 V70T5M Replacement of rear ABS sensors and harness 9472171

I finally replaced my multiple-repaired rear ABS harness - made difficult since this is a one piece harness that has to be threaded above the gas tank into the rear interior to plug in.

Pictures to come.

Tools needed

Block, jack, stands, safety

M6 socket
Torx T25 male
Pliers
Wire brush to clean out wheel holes
Philips screw driver to knock out stubborn sensor on left.
Fish tape to pull connector from below car into trunk - contrary to procedure.

Parts needed

Volvo 9472171 $175 bucks....Ouch

Time for job 90 minutes estimated

: M6 Bolts to remove cover plate

: Cover plate removed, yellow harness is ABS

: Routing left wire

: Wire over axle torsion beam

: Routing left wire

: One tor 25 to release ABS Sensor

: I gorilla'd one of the sensors and had to punch it out of the hole with a screwdriver

: Clamp for fuel lines and wires, pass side rear

: Its tight on original path but if you come aft about 15 cm you can get a fish tape up

Total time for job 75 minutes. I got hung on the left ABS sensor stuck in the hole, snapped it with pliers - so I had to punch it out through the brake drum with a long screwdriver.

Root cause of problem. Long time ago, I had an indie do something on one wheel, and this is how they put it back together.

I had to solder this thing about 5 times, each time it broke again, just as I went to redo it, the wires would reconnect and my ABS would no longer fault.

Glad I finally fixed it right.

Holy Batman - I paid only $75 for this sensor last year - now I feel better about the 4 hours I spent cleaning the garage to find it - its now $175!!

Ill go fish the old sensor out of the trash.

Score another one for the bastards - the OEM integrated right/left rear harness 9472171 is a

S70/V70 1999-2000
C70 1999-2004

Just a small open/short at the end of the bend where it was rubbing, right?

I had to disassemble the wheel to get that wire out and then I had an open wire to solder. It’s small gauge and hard to get a connection that wouldn’t flex and break.
