Power to the unit with my 850. Don't know about taking it out of the dash w/ a S60.

How to Thank someone for their post

yes, the S60 is a negative-ground electrical system. You'll need the radio code if the radio loses power, which would occur if you ever removed the fuse, unplugged the harness, or disconnected the negative battery cable. Of which you'll have to unplug the harness -- so you'll need the code.
I'm using an Eclipse 8454 headunit.
As for the under-dash section, both of my 850 volvos have 3 torx screws to remove the panel. I am not sure how the S60 has these held in. If you can either call, or make a visit to your local dealer, and talk to the service manager. They are usually very nice for giving you suggestions, tips, or even a quick walkthrough of what you'd need to do if you can ask a specific question -- such as how to get your radio out.

The second statement is a disclaimer and unless they can prove that an addition to the electrical system caused a warranteed part to fail that is also a statement that is full of...
Find a different dealer.

well, there's a reason she's in sales. I wouldn't listen to anything she says, but it's your car, so do as you like. Can't add anything to the electrical system? Well, that's a load of bull right there. I own 2 volvos, one is bone-stock, the other I'm working on doing some nice mods to. My modded volvo has about 2000 Watts worth of stereo in it, and my friend's volvo is running just under 4000 Watts. My volvo has zero electrical problems, and I don't half-ass anything... I made sure it'd be safe. My friend isn't as careful as I am, and he has *minor* headlight dimming... Considering we're talking KILOwatts worth of power here, I doubt that the 15 or so watts that your valentine takes is going to cause any problems.

Aw, c'mon, guys! Please, be a bit patient with me.
I am capable of doing this myself, and I am not concerned about the service manager covering his arse.
On the other hand, I'd like to have adequate information, prior to ripping out the stereo and breaking the underdash covers. On my Audi and DTS, I knew a bunch of technicians who traded their time for a few beers, and I got these things done without damaging anything.
This S60R is one great driving machine -- IMO -- and I got a really good deal on it. Now, I need to fend for myself, because it doesn't appear that I'm gonna get much in aftermarket support from this dealer.
So, I come here, and look to you more experienced dudes to guide me.
That's really what this is about. How do I learn enough to do this myself? How can I learn enough so that I do *not* damage anything, and create unnecessary expenses?
