No power to front left parking light...

My 1998 S70's front left parking light went out, and by that I mean the dim yellow bulb inside the turn signal. I also get a bulb error light. The turn signal works just fine.

I figured it was the bulb, so I replaced it and still no dice. I pulled out my volt meter and found that there is no power to the wires. I despise electrical issues like this!

Any suggestions on where to start? Anyone know where this wire goes?

Agreed, mysterious electrical issues are a nuisance. Are you sure it's the wires or possibly the connector terminals. I've had water get into the electrical side of the parking marker lights and rust the contacts enough that the directional stopped working so I had to replace that unit. I also noticed that the female contacts that plug into the back of the bulb sockets seemed a little corroded, too. If they are, you might be getting electricity to that point but your meter probe isn't contacting deep enough to show voltage. Just a guess but worth a try.

did you check the fuse? If fuse keeps blowing the front left parking light shares some electrical in the tailgate of the V70. See if all your lights are working in the rear of the car. I think the license plate lights share the same fuse as the left parking light. If you find an item inop in the back I would inspect the wire harness in the trunk.

Everything in the back seems to be working just fine, aside from one of the rear fog light bulbs but that's been out long before this was an issue. I will check again.

There should only be one rear fog light, left side for US, far left for Canada

Finally fixed this. It was indeed a blown fuse, number 23 under the hood. Not sure why I missed this earlier.

Anyways, it's been good so far. But the question in my head is why did it blow? I'm not going to worry about it until it blows again.

Old age, vibration, bulb could be going out and pulling a bit more current.

There is also more than one thing on that fuse, so any faults in those circuits will blow that fuse

It is rare for a fuse of these types to just blow, I agree.

Same problem here, and yes, 23 was blown, but my wife hit a deer and the bulb was smashed. New assembly, new bulb, everything else on that circuit seems to work, though she had a burnt license plate bulb. Really puzzled, and about to jack the right front indicator's power. Seems like a hack, though.

Look up at the stickies for paths to wiring diagrams , we don't host them here by agreement with Volvo.

That will give you the fault trace path , sans hack
