So in my eyes adding helpful information to a thread of any age is good. June
I agree with this. This is the good half of letting old threads stay unlocked. The bad half is when someone in say Classifieds asks if a car from a 2009 (or whatever very old date) is still available. They simply don't read the date. I don't see that as a terrible downside.

Oh that happens enough already. Someone replies to an old dead 'Help me I've fallen and I can't get up' thread without noticing the date from months/years ago.
Strictly speaking, we're talking about two different things. Disappearing posts and resurrecting old posts.

That's why I suggested a placeholder text. You'd probably want a script that triggers when the thread is over say, 4 months old and displays the sleeping vampire text if the last two replies are more than 1 month old. If that can be done in php. This would leave discretion up to the forum users e.g. if you're tasty (good new information or proven fix) the vampire won't mind being awakened.

A few times I quoted the wrong post in a thread and realized it after I hit the submit button. The couple of times this happened I left it. I figured at worst someone might think "she's a dingbat" at best known i made a mistake and known which post I was referring to though I quoted the wrong one. There's a edit button I use to correct typos or if android changed a word I didn't catch.

I would think a moderator could be private messaged if someone wanted a post removed? I assume the moderators have the power to delete foul, inappropriate posts. So really I don't see any reason to change anything. June

Not only is mod post delete possible, we do it on occasion, whenever anyone requests it, typically for a double post. As frequently as daily.

We don’t do it when someone asks to wipe their entire post history, for example (worst case request scenario). That would cause readability chaos. Besides, we’re talking cars here, not private inner feelings.

Not too many former posters running for public office, probably a good thing.
