1993 Volvo 240 no start, starter?

Post by ordinaryboy1986 »

Installed new fuel injectors. Removed the fuel rail. Put everything back. Ended up removing the throttle body and air intake and cleaned everything. While that was removed I noticed my starter and the nut holding the cables looked really loose so I tightened it. Nothing seemed to pop off. The ground was still attached. Put everything back. Check everything. Key in you can hear the fuel relay and pump and the injectors click. Turn to start and absolutely nothing.

Very very amateur at working on volvos. Before I even try pulling this starter off I was just going to see what y’all think. She was starting just before I did all this :/

Thanks y’all!

Did you hold the back nut in place as you tighten the top nut? Did the post turn as you tighten it?

should I tighten both the front and back nut? Is there a specific way the grounds need to be? She was starting up just fine a hour before I decided to clean some stuff :(

Is there a specific way the grounds need to be?

The Blue-Yellow wire is not a ground, it is the positive voltage to the Starter Solenoid. The smaller terminals on the Solenoid should be marked. If you got the two smaller wires reversed the Solenoid would not move in the right direction and the ignition switch start circuit would be shorted to ground.

Okay. That’s gotta be it. Any advice on how I should go about this? Pull the blue and yellow wire off, and remove the two grounds that both attach to the same post? I’m sorry I’m so clueless with this. Thank you so much for this info

I can’t tell what’s positive or negative on the starter. I tried putting the blue and yellow wire on the right side and I kept the back but loose out both bigger wires back on. Finger tightened the nut. Car would light up then turn key and nothing. Took all the wires off put the blue yellow on the left and then the other two wires back on the bolt and finger tightened the nut and nothing. Then I tried the two wires opposite from the first time. Nothing. New starter?
