95 850 Turbo Mystery Line

Post by alpine67 »

Hey folks, I'm trying to replace the vacuum lines on my 95 850 Turbo and think, after spending quite a bit of time here and on YouTube, have figured out where most of them go. I found two not connected to anything or rotted off, and one hard plastic line maybe broken off. The latter is the mystery line. I can't figure out where it goes, although there seems to be plenty of questionable ports on the inlet tube that runs to the turbo. Below is a link to two pictures of the line, in case the upload doesn't go through. The first is for general location.

Note the picture upload turned the image sideways - rotate it to the right for correct orientation. In the second, my finger is holding out the mystery line.

. Again this one got rotated - turn it to the right.

The plastic line you are touching and the larger line that are wrapped together both go to the PTC valve on the intake tube I believe. They are part of the PCV system. The one to the right with the elbow I'm not sure, maybe its for your cruise control under the battery.

The 2nd half of roberts PCV video talks about it.

Thank you so much! Looking at the condition of the two tubes and the cover I have to wonder how long the thing has been on there. Maybe time to take a closer look at the PCV assembly itself before I get everything buttoned back up. I already have the fuel rail and injectors off for cleaning, so not that much more to do it.

The kits are pretty easy to come by at FCPeuro and IPDusa. It should be easy since you already have the engine partially dismantled. The PCV system is known to cause problems and should be replaced every few years or if you see an increase in crankcase pressure.

As stated those are both lines that probably run to the turbo intake hose at the PTC nipple mid way between the air box and the turbo. The small black one I think connects there also but some of the turbo hoses have the connection by the PTC nipple and some higher up near the MAF.

If these were disconnected it could be someone was trying to reduce crankcase pressure by disconnecting. There is a good PCV writeup on MVS for a Turbo 850 so look at that and Roberts video for guidance.

Thanks, Neil. I also found that the line that runs to the turbo bypass valve was just hanging and had been off most likely for some time, judging by the amount of grease and dirt that I had to remove from the nipple. A little worried about what that might have caused. Strange thing about this car is that it never threw any CELs since my wife had it. I did check the turbo itself and it spins freely with no noticeable play in the shaft.

I'll check out the MVS writeup. Watched Robert's video per ZionXIX's advice and found it to be helpful.

Thanks again for your suggestions.
