XC Drive Shaft Removal Topic is solved

The rubber on the carrier bearing on the XC prop shaft failed so I am trying to get the thing removed. I have all of the bolts out but I can't seem to get it free from the rear flange. I got the front flange free by having the front wheel on jack stands and putting the car in drive to pop it free. I put a couple of bolts back in the front flange and set the parking brake and tried to pop the rear joint free but it tried to drive off of the jack stands.

I did find the extra holes in the back of the flange and put a bolt in the hole to try to pry from the rear but no joy. Are the extra holes threaded? No amount of beating on it with a 4 lb hammer seems to be getting me anywhere.

I'm on day two and it is getting frustrating.

They like to rust together. Try heating it with a torch.
Additionally, you can reconnect the driveshaft at the front, leave the bolts off at the rear. If the wheels are off the ground try to break it free either by leaving the transmission in park and grabbing/turning the differential yoke with a large pipe wrench, or, with the vehicle on the ground, rocking the car a few inches back and fourth. You can do this with engine power if you're careful not to move the car more than a few inches at a time so when it does break free the drive shaft isn't flopping around causing damage.

Or just soak it with PB blaster and rotate it while hitting the flange with a hammer to help it shock loose. As mrbrian200 says the buggers like to stick in there. They are slightly counter sunk.

After a good soaking with PB Blaster I put a couple of bolts back in the front and put some concrete blocks behind the wheels to lock it in place (hopefully). After I put it in reverse with the front wheels on jack stands and gave it the gas. From there the shaft popped free and 15 minutes later it was out and the car was back on the road!
