Hello,

Anybody try Pentius, Amsoil brands of air-filters? How have these brands of filters boosted fuel economy?

Although I do not know the answer, you do not specify which car you have... Please list your model year, model and type ('04 S40 T5, etc.). A turbo car would make more of a difference depending on filter than a non-turbo car.

I looked and for my car 04 S80 the Penius air filter is under $10.00, I think Volvo charges $60.00. Being so cheap it would be interesting if their product turns out to save gas. If you get results please let us know. I achieved a 1 to 3 mpg improved mileage since switching from the dealership Castrol synthetic 5w30 to Redline 5w30. Same Volvo filter, Shell 93 from the same station I always fill, and same normal weekly driving routes. Just a ester based 100% synthetic oil. June

On a stock car it shouldn't be able to make a difference. They're not exactly being used near capacity when new since there has to be room for a few years of dirt in them between changes.

Agreed. If you are really driving to get best MPG then the low CFM of air you pass through airfilter will not create any issue that air filters will improve.

My vehicle is a 2009 Volvo C30 Turbo. How does outside air-flow through the air-intake duct play a role in fuel-economy?

more air more fuel...it won't help fuel economy but could/will make a difference in turbo boost.

Only if you modify the software as well. The original software will try to adapt back to its specified performance if you change parts. It won't take any advantage of higher air flow for example.

Good point- I forget that my ECM has been flash upgraded. Btw, I use a Typhoon filter and intake and got rid of the regular air box for this reason on my S40 T5.

I will say that cooler air can make a difference in helping your car run better (and less wear)...that's one reason many attempt to get air into the intake that has minimally been heated by the engine bay.
