2002 V70 2.4T Radiator Replacement Guide/Video/Tutorial?

Post by Jonboy74 »

Hi all,

I've been looking for a video or picture tutorial on how exactly to replace the radiator on my 2002 V70 2.4L WITH Turbo, and have not found anything specific. Everything I have found has been all around it - Pre 2001, different models, Non-Turbo, but I'm hesitant to follow those because I've found so many that say "this is different than x model").

I found this in the forum here: Replace radiator in 2002 v-70 , but that's it. I'd like something more if it exists.

Also, I'm curious to know if there are any gotchas, caveats, or special tools I should have before attempting this?

My understanding is that the radiator comes out through the bottom, so the front end has to be high enough off the ground to accommodate this.

I've replaced the radiator in a 2005 Chrysler T&C and a 1999 Chevy Blazer, so I'm not a newbie, but I know better than to go into this without the wisdom of others who have gone before me. :D

Thanks,

Jonboy

It shows as a 3.8 hour job in Alldata. I believe it's quite a bit easier than a P80 as yo,u don't have the two radiator " wings" which are known to be rusty captive nuts that snap off in the frame member

It's a basic, drain coolant, disconnect AC condenser from radiator, drop radiator, procedure.

Just did the radiator on my 1998 S70 GLT, sorry I don't know about 2002, but my guess it is very similar (I may be wrong). Here is the DIY for 1998 S70 GLT:

PS: Maybe you can do it, take photos and post a DIY?

I ended up deciding not to do it myself - needing a helper and being short on time, I decided it would be better to pay a pro. it stung the wallet a little bit, but I didn't have to hassle with it.

abscate - honestly not sure - I had them do several other things too. Total labor was about $680 for radiator, replacing all 4 sway bar end links, changing the oil & filter, & replacing the power steering reservoir. I supplied all parts except for a couple of hose clamps and the two radiator oil line clips (that they said to ALWAYS replace, even if they were just replaced a month ago, because they are such a finicky part).
