2004 C70 P80 platform Check DII codes without scanner (DTC menu)? Check engine light on '04 c70, OBDII shows no codes.

Post by Hellmark »

Hello, having some issues on my 2004 C70, and hope you can help.

Last night when I parked my car, I noticed tail lights were still on after the car was off and key out of ignition. Got in, started up, and it immediately went into winter mode and wouldn't exit. Turned off and on a few times, shifting through each position. Eventually it went out of winter mode, but now check engine light is on. Ran code reader with Torque but didn't get a faults. I check online to see if there was something else I can do and see mention of pulling up the DTC menu by holding the read button on the turn indicator while ignition set to II, and toggling the fog lights. No dice. See others complaining about that method not working for their C70s either.

Anyone got a clue? I can't afford to take it in to the dealer, plus I don't have one close by.

Does not give the codes per se.

Volvo hidden menu – procedure
  • Turn ignition to II position.
Press and hold [READ] button on the left stalk AS you Press [rear fog lights] button twice.
You should see “CHECKING DTCS” message on the DIM.
    Release the [READ] button.
After few seconds you should see “DTCS IN VEHICLE” message.
Use READ button to browse through the hidden menu.

I don't think that's gonna work on a P80...

THE C70 platform is still P80 in 2004, it is the late bloomer.

OK, and how can we read the codes? It just tells us there is an error.

You use VIDA or a higher end (about 150 USD) code reader.

If you’re asking in regards to the 2001 S80
indicated in your profile signature, you’ll get
much more relevent responses in the S80
section of MVS:

viewforum.php?f=11

This is the forum area for the older P80 platform Volvos.
The 2004 C70 owner that originated this post has a unique
Coupe or Convertible that ran on the P80 platform for a few
years longer than the Sedans and Wagons.

Best of Luck!

It’s for a 2004 C70 , which is P80 platform, per first post.

It’s really good to follow the YEAR MODEL ISSUE format in the title
