1996 850 GLT No crank no start
Hi, 1996 850 turbo. Car started and ran fine on my way home last night. Today I got in to go to work and the car started and ran but had a different sound while starting but sounded normal when running. I shut it off and tried to start again and no crank. Battery is only a few months old and shows 12.45 v on my meter. I put the charger on it anyway for about an hour and the car will still not crank. Searched on here for starter relay but apparently the 850 hasn't got one. Any ideas while I search archives will be appreciated. Thx

Welcome cxf
Search starter bypass location to find the thread showing you how to bypass the key and relay for the starter circuit and test the starter directly

Thank you all for the welcome! I have been a member here for quite a while but don't post much although i do get email notifications. I will definitely get on this tomorrow... i think I have a remote start gizmo out in the garage. I really appreciate your taking the time to share your knowledge.

Remember that bypass is just that, it’s also bypassing the park, brake, and clutch safety interlocks
Once you put 12 voltson thatvconnector, it’s turning the engine over.
A sudden complete loss of cranking with a good battery is often ignition switch , electrical part

Update: I found the bypass lead but not my remote starter. I had a heavier gauge wire that I connected to the bypass and then touched to the + battery post and got nothing. Looks like the starter is toast... kinda makes sense because when it did start yesterday it did sound a bit weird before it started and then after i shut it down it wouldn't crank again.

Try hitting the starter with a broom handle or crowbar while someone cranks. Old trick that sometimes works. Before though, make sure power is actually getting to the starter.
