Hi I own a Volvo 850 97 NA Sedan. Not sure if anyone can help me here. Just a question regarding the A/C light above the A/C ON/OFF switch (see attached image).

When I turn the A/C switch ON sometimes I see a constant RED light (no flashing). Other times when I turn the A/C switch ON is see a constant blue light (no flashing).

In both scenarios the A/C cool air flows out of the vents.

Any ideas what these two different coloured lights refer too? I have scoured the internet but other cases seem to refer to a blinking light, which I don't have.

Thanks enthusiasts!

That's a new one on me ... does the red happen when you mash the throttle or get the RPMs up, by chance?

Not that I can see. First trip in the car this morning the light was red for the entire journey to and from the shops (15-20 minutes total driving there and back). Turned the car off in the driveway, then started it up again, now the light is blue.

I'll keep a closer eye on it to see if I can spot any concrete patterns.

Attached is the blue light (i'll post the image as soon as I see the red light appear). I guess the blue light this is preferred out of the two!

I’m guessing it’s an Aussie Thing and blue is compressor engaged, red is AC on and compressor not engaged.

How to test. Hmmmm

If it goes blue when you turn the mode knob to defrost , that’s confirming. If you can drive it into a large refrigerated garage below 0C and it turns red , confirming
