97 Volvo 850 sunroof won’t open

Post by Misterglut01 »

Just picked up a 97 850 wagon and working on one problem at a time. I’m currently concentrating on the sunroof that won’t open. When I press the sunroof button just kinda clicks and the motor can’t turn the cables. I managed to gut into it today and I found a big pine cone crammed in the track and got it out of the way but I still need to clean the track and scissors up more. The motor works great when not linked with cables in position. Something is still clogging it from being able to slide. How can I remove the scissors and all off the track for better clean, or is there a manual way I can slide back and forth on the track to clear out the clog? Should the mechanics (everything on the track) still work even without the glass attached ?

Robert doesn’t explain how the track works in the video. It was very helpful with removing the glass but that’s all.. if you look at the video he works on 2 different sunroof motors. Mine is the second one with no manual screwdriver option .. how do you remove the scissors off the track and etc. How should all work on the track with no glass in? I got the glass off just don’t know where to start as far as everything on the track

If it's not opening there is likely something broken in the track system. If that is the case, I doubt you will be able to find those parts, let alone replace them. Replace the entire unit.

Nothing in there looks broke. It’s simply just jammed on the track. I swear if my motor had the manual screwdriver option it would be fixed already.

I have a 50% repair record- on one I was able to remove the glass and spray silicone lubricant that flushed out all the crap and got it working again the second one there was something broken- I would vote to replace the whole thing for the pain involved- take a booster pack to the picknpull to test the sunroof assembly before you remove it

Once you drop the motor the glass should slide back by hand. No magic.
