No, just smoother ride and almost no error in the odometer.

I would run the 215s since OP mentioned smoother was sought for. Thats what I run on my 06 R, 215/45/17. Can't imagine going to 205.

I run 225/45/17 on my 00 'R' and they work well. AWD are a little different and have a little more room in the rear wheel area as the parking brake cables come in perpendicular to the rear hub compared to the angled entry of the FWD cars.
I am running Pirelli tires in the summer and they are ok for noise. Sorry can't remember the specific tire version.
Neil.

I was going to purchase the BF-Goodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S as they have great reviews for the price on Tire Rack but when I showed up to Discount Tire they recommended their own brand (made by Kumho), Road Hugger or something, and they have been great. The guy at the shop had them on his Nissan R32 and had nothing but good things to say. Less expensive as well.

Interesting on the Kumho tires as I have never had luck with them. Short lifespan, poor grip and noisy has been my experience. Just goes to show if you try hard enough you can get it right sometimes!
