trunk wont latch closed

i just finished installing a new battery into my 2001 s60 2.4T and now when i close the trunk the latch does not go into the closed position to hold the trunk closed, it just worked seconds before i put a new battery in. the latch is not stuck in the closed position i have seen some people suggest trying to pull the emergency release but my car doesnt seem to have one. i have tried closing the trunk and pressing the lock button on my key to lock the doors then unlocking, im not sure what that is supposed to do but i have seen people say that aswell im totally confused please help me

My trunk lid latch n my v70 gave up after 18 years, I got a junkyard one which lasted one more year

A crisp new one from FCP made me cry on price but now I giggle at the crisp cluk of closing the lid and latchingwith one finger of pressure.
