On the AWD you have 2 level sensors and the car averages them to give you a reading. Naturally at this age, if they are both the originals, chances are they are worn and may well give false reading. If everything else is working fine, I would suggest learning to drive around the problem as it is an expensive problem to fix by replacing the pump and ejector on an AWD.

I agree the ideal solution would be to act smarter and adapt. Unfortunately that isn't an option physically possible for the other half that occasionally drives the car. Prayer is currently good for about a half mile trip on an otherwise empty tank so I guess that's a positive finding.

I hope to hook the car up tomorrow morning - but haven't had a chance as of yet. I'm thinking the pump may be original, so if the sensor/pump assembly needs to be replaced as a preventative measure, it beats sitting on the side of the road asking myself why I didn't do it on a cold wintry day. I may check fuel pressure in the near future but am currently having no starting or running problems so I'm guessing it is within the range of acceptable/required performance.

Current temp 30 F (-1.1 C) with crazy wind. Way too cold still to do much of anything.

Thanks for the offer. I need to avoid freezing my bits and pieces... Earliest I'll be safe to do much of anything is unfortunately Tuesday - my doing much after work isn't a good idea.

Thanks anyways. I was just outside grabbing some caffeine and relocating the car due to the parade tomorrow. Into the sinking garage of doom the Volvo went - my precious.

It's fraking cold. I'll try for another available day once it gets a bit warmer - or once I at least feel warmer.

I can't promise much. I hope the political paybacks were worth moving the equipment to a location with less power options as well as being closer to a known active fault line.

Stay warm our East Coast friends. It is supposed to be Spring next Tuesday I'm being told!

Ah, joy. We have just had another 15-20cm of snow and now are to get another 10-15cm tomorrow. Will it ever stop this global warming?!
