Fit A Board In v70 ?

Post by MrAl »

Hi,

Anyone know if you can fit a 2 foot by 8 foot piece of 1 inch pine board inside a v70 1998?
I might have to carry a piece home and i dont have the roof racks.
I would hate to have to leave the tail gate open.
Maybe a makeshift roof rack? Any ideas would be good.
The thickness is probably more like 3/4 inch but they call it 1 inch.

Thanks.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Sideways from back left to into the passenger seat area up front, it will fit. I think you can get a 10 footer in there of stick lumber , Maybe not a 2 foot x 10 foot plank though

It might help to tip the passenger seat forward too ( you know it does that, right?)

Since you can fold the passenger and rear seats seat flat you should be able to. Volvos ads for the 850 showed a kayak inside the car IIRC.a

8ft is not a problem with all the seats down. 10 ft is a bit more difficult. I busted a windshield trying to put a 10ft piece of pipe in my wagon, wasn't paying attention and slammed the lift gate instantly spider cracking my windshield. After that embarrassment I just used the sunroof.

Too funny. I did the same thing as ZionXIX with 10ft 2x4s. I had the wagon for about 1 month when I did that.

8 ft. should be no problem. I would still wrap the end in the front with a rag/old shirt. your dash or back of the lowered front passenger seat will thank you for taking the time to not scuff them.

somewhere in between 9-10 ft. is safe. I often throw a 9ft. longboard in with the seats down no problem, tailgate closed. 10 ft, well you know the rest.

Hello again,

Thanks much for the replies. Sounds good, like it should work no problem so i dont have to worry about getting it home.

Very sorry to hear about the cracked window, but at least know i know what to watch out for when doing this. I hate to think about the cost of replacing that windshield in this Volvo or yours either.

Now who wants to volunteer to build the table the board is going to be used for?
He he, just kidding... :-) :-)

I also have to load about 600 cinder bricks in the back seat. Think they will fit too, or should i just pile them on the roof?
Ok just kidding again :-)

Fold the rears down and you have a nice square space for bricks ;-)

The seats are for people. Cargo doesn't appreciate them. I fold my rears up and down almost every week even though I don't even drive the car to work or anything like that.

I was actually able to get a local place with no warranty of course to install it for less than $200. I was pleased with the results, no fancy tinting or anything but it works and doesn't leak.

I know this does not cover the long dimension up into the front (passenger) area of P80s, but if anyones riding in on this topic in the future off Google, this covers the rest.
