P80 1998 S70 winter wheel tires ---> P2 2004 V70?

Post by cn90 »

Hi wheel gurus,

https://www.ipdusa.com/techtips/10010/w ... lvo-models

I need some help. I have reviewed the above guide...

- I have a set of winter tires mounted on rims for P80 1998 S70.

- I just acquired a P2 2004 V70 FWD. Can I use P80 wheels on a P2 car?

The rims will generally fit give or take a few mm offset but the P2s use a larger diameter tyre for the same rim size.

What tire size is on those P80 wheels, that's the bigger question?

If you are talking about the standard 15" wheels of both models, then the P80 tires are too small (which is what Rattnalle already correctly said).

P2 standard size is 195/65/15

P80 standard size is 195/60/15 or 185/65/15, which is the recommended snow tire size according to Volvo.

P80 tire/wheel size is the question as previously stated. What varient of P2 V70 FWD do you have as there are 3 rotor sizes possible. With the smallest (I think they are 286mm) a 15" wheel rim should be fine (most P2 wheels have a 49mm offset v's P80 at 43mm).

Tire size will naturally look 'off' depending on aspect ratio (60 v' 65), and also affect your speedometer a few %. Your speedo will over read at least so reduce the tickets.

There is nothing like fitting to see!

You will have to try installing a front wheel yourself to see if it clears the caliper. See if the center bore matches as well. Then it's the matter of the wheel lugs, try to compare the P1 (S70) lugs with the P2 lugs to see if they have the same overall dimension plus, very important, check if the seat angle is the same (the picture shows a nut but the lug has the same angle): it has to be identical or the lug may loosen up while driving. It is very possible you'll have to use S70 lugs, again they will need to have similar length/thread spacing and diameter as the one in the P2.

In all cases, inspect the wheels every few miles after installing then every few days to make sure the lugs don't loosen up.
