Seat leather problem? Check with one of MVS sponsor's OEM Parts direct! Just ask my hubby... BTW the seat bottom arrived today, so now I can have the new seat covers installed. I can't wait to have my seat feeling good again. June

Well I’m de-skinning the bottom and top of the base seat

The bottom is easy, the seatback looks harder

I was wondering the same thing! Since the headrest is stationary it does not just lift off. It must fasten in the back frame. My thought is remove the bottom fasteners than peel the leather up exposing the entire back framework making the seatcover wrong way out still attached by the headrest. Notice my sealed new Volvo seatcover for the back came wrong side out, but the bottom seatcover came right side out. It must come that way for a reason. Look at the photos I posted earlier. With the seatcover peeled up see what attaches the headrest. Being proficient in sewing that is what seems to me the way to go. June

I'm going to call VWoA... My "New" Beetle should have had that option factory but didn't - should be a standard feature. Seems like a great idea for unruly children, spouses - or, to be able to legitimately claim you were attempting to get someone into the seat - when you inevitably hit them while they're in the road.

Is this one of those things where the frame could be cut and the bottom sides swapped? Obviously that won't help for the airbags...

The headrest do remove. You have to feel part way down the rear of the back rest and there are 2 recesses about 6" or so. You need to push hard and have someone else pull the headrest at the same time and it will (very) reluctantly release. Can't recall where I found that info, I think it was on one of the company websites like Elwood Industries where they had picture instructions.

http://elwoodindustries.com/S70V70seats.html

At the lower right there is a pdf how-to file.

Sorry don't see one for the S80 though, but worth checking as may be the same.

Neil.

All data says see instructions for head restraint, but a search for head restraint comes up " empty pizza box"

Thanks Neil

The headrests release, but it's a bit of a pain. I've done it once before. You have to push just under the part of the seat that is indented with your thumbs (was searching for a picture but couldn't find one... if that's unclear, I'll post one up in a bit), you'll feel tabs that you can depress. Just pull up while you're pressing them and they should pop out without TOO much effort.
The seat bottom should swap over no problem, but the back would be my concern. The lumbar/recliner knobs (if it's a manual seat) could leave some holes of the wrong size on either side of the seat.
