Volvo S80 has to start in 3rd gear triptronic
Hi guys I recently picked up a 2000 Volvo S80 T6 for what I’m hoping is still a great deal about $1400 with 175k miles. It is having problems with transmission. Reverse works fine but not 1st or 2nd gear you have to start at 3rd gear in triptronic mode and then upshoft from there. There’s no check engine light and no codes. Does anyone know the fix for this first the whole transmission need to be replaced or is there an easier fix. Also seem to be having the same battery drain issues as some others on here is it possible that this is contributing. One other issues I’ve been driving to and from work the last couple weeks about 15 miles each way and everything seems fine but I did about a 50 mile trip yesterday and there was some buzzing coming from my engine compartment for at least a few minutes after I took the ignition off. Thanks for any advice I’m not the most knowledgeable car guy but I’m really looking to learn and teach myself how to do things on my own on this car with all of the valuable resources like this forum out there. Thank you for your time.

Is it ok to drive like this for awhile til I can afford transmission replacement. It drives really well on the freeway just have to start out gently from third gear besides that driving the car is great. I guess what I’m asking is if I’m going to have to replace transmission anyways can I keep driving it like this until it gets worse or will it do other damage to the engine?

Can`t hurt anything go for it. Eventually it will just not work at all, of course during rush hour traffic on 405
