Wipers start when vanity mirror is opened

Post by scottbly »

Okay Volvo fans, figure this one for me. In my 2006 V50 my wipers start uncontrollably when the passenger visor mirror flap is opened. If you don't believe me I will send you a video.

That's definitely a strange one. It could be that moisture got into the main fuse tray and is allowing some type of shorting between the mirror and the wiper control fuse. I would pull the fuse tray down from under the carpet (it's under the glove box) and take a look. You should be able to figure out which fuses are to which components on the car and go from there...dry, clean and reinstall the fuses. I hope that this helps.

In my sister's XC90 when I was replacing a bulb I noticed the wire harness to the UEM/rear view mirror was misrouted and pinched against the metal frame that the upper console bolts to. It wasn't causing any shorts yet, but easily could have. Even if you don't have rain sensing wipers control wires for the system likely are present in the harness. I would start there.
