I have a 99 s80 and i just installed a pioneer avh201ex radio and my srs airbag light is on. Ive been told that i need another harness to complete the loop so the airbags are active and the light goes, and I've been told that i dont need the harness i just need a mechanic with the right scanner to shut the light off. Somebody give me the best advice. Last thing i need is to get into an accident and not have working airbags.

The light is actually not related to the airbag function, it's just that the communication network is, among other modules, connected to the airbag system, and the network was disrupted by the aftermarket radio. I'm not sure the light can be cleared as long as the original radio is out. But the airbags, seat belts, should work fine even with the light on as long as the light went off indeed when the radio was replaced.

Take it to someone who can read the code. It will tell you specifically what it is. Mine was for the driver seatbelt switch. replaced it cleared the code and never came back on. Now if you can FIND that person who wont charge you and arm and a leg to read the code, erase at your on risk. There are VERY few shops, obviously Volvo, that can read SRS, UCM etc codes.

If a SRS harness was disconnected when the key was on, that would set the SRS fault light. Make sure you got all the harness reconnected and then have the fault code cleared.
