Whistling PCV

So, this is more of a funny thing than a genuine maintenance request, so I thought id share.

I've had this whistling noise for about a week now, goes away when I accelerate and gets loud when idle.

I checked just about everything. It was driving me MAD

Well today I'm trying to source the sound, and I have it tracked down to the distributor area. I by accident touch the hose that provides vacuum between the pcv connector and the intake manifold and find out that is what is whistling.

So I'll be replacing that ASAP.

Maybe I'll try silicone hoses instead of rubber.

I just serviced the PCV system. So hopefully I did it correctly!

Just my two cents, but that hose makes a racket on my T5 as well. New hose, no kinks, routed outside the manifold. The noise stops when I squeeze the hose shut, so I'm taking it as a sign of good flow... to put it like that, and a clear PTC - I'm assuming that's the hose you're talking about.

Btw, I'm using a silicone hose as well, but this one will start to sweat after a while, using silicone. I'd recommend rubber instead for this particular hose.

Yeah I went went rubber as well bc I assume it moves some oil. Heck it was sweating oil the other day. So it must. I think it's the thickness of the rubber tube. It's so thin it's vibrating like an old recorder. It really sounds like a woodwind instrument. I wonder if I still have the original tube. I remember it being much thicker than the replacement hose.

Yeah, going a little thicker or even using fuel hose is a good option - I can imagine it being a lot louder/whistly with a thin walled hose.
