S40 Turn signals stopped working at all

Post by mjlsoprano »

My 2008 S40 turn signals stopped working this weekend. Press or lift the stem, nothing happens at all. The 3-flash lane change function to the left had stopped a couple of months ago. The hazards work, the turn signal stem still operates the bright headlights and the "messages." Per a couple of other threads, I removed the stem and cleaned the (very dirty) circuit board attached to it. No luck at all. Any suggestions?

Well, I'll answer my own question. There are two little three-fingered pins on the circuit board. The one with equal sized fingers runs the bright headlights. The one with three different sized fingers runs the turn signals. One of those had an end who's notch was broken off so it could no longer complete the connection. No junkyards in town had a turn signal switch, and I don't have any great resources for tiny electronics parts (or the time to research them) so I bought whole new switch from the dealer for <$100. Could have ordered for less, but it's stressful running around without turn signals. Works now.
