Hello forum - working on my new-to-me '97 850 base model. Keyless entry did not work when I bought it - original owner had two fobs, both with dead batteries. Added new ones, only one works, and oddly enough, when you press Lock AND when you press Unlock, it locks. Is the problem the fob or the receiver? Went to PnP, got a receiver, plugged it in, tried to program fob, no go. (Obviously could be a bad receiver.) Has anyone had this happen? Both the receiver and the fob are discontinued - they're out there, mostly used, but expensive!!! Don't want to invest that much money on trial-and-error. Bought an aftermarket fob that insists it works with this car, but cannot get it to program on either receiver. Any insight is appreciated.
Also, this uses the 9442982 fob and the 9166607 receiver, in the relay fuse panel under the dash. There's nothing to the right of the glove box, but the green plug is wired there, empty, as it is on '97's. Anybody know whether if I get a receiver from an older model, plug it in by the glove box, and get an old-style fob (much more common) - will that make the system work? System is supposed to be plug-and-play, can't see why that wouldn't work. Again, I'll be grateful for any comments. Thanks.
